By renowned Costa Rican architect Abraham Valenzuela, the house has a spacious open layout, inviting textures, and wonderful scale. In the lower Rio Rosario basin with probably the finest Guanacaste coast microclimate, it offers luxurious indoor-outdoor living.
The Indonesian plantation house design evokes timeless qualities. With no cheap tile, aluminum or chrome, it's built entirely with concrete, copper, exotic woods, clay tiles and stone. The home projects durability and strength, and it shows.
A 50' lap pool is central to the main living area. Its long infinity-edge frames the wonderful nature reserve and ocean views. The pool surface reflects mesmerizing visuals throughout the day, and colorful sunsets too. The pool is always inviting with near perfect temperatures.
The master wing has a tree house feel, with 3 glass walls that open to screen walls that allow in cooling breezes and wildlife sounds instead of the sterile whine of blowers and fans. You enjoy birds and monkeys just a few feet away.
Set a half mile back up from the ocean at 300' elevation, it enjoys a near perfect coastal climate - many call it the finest climate in the world! Tucked atop a steep side canyon, its layout protects from the strong NE winds while allowing the cooling breezes in. In this house, air conditioning is only minimally needed.
Looking west from the house at night you see no lights. The 86-acre nature reserve below is dark, and will always remain dark. This allows for a greater sense of privacy in the home's living experience. You hear the stimulating sounds of nature and crashing waves instead.. To the right are what some of the Guests have written.
“Truly one of most unique homes you will ever stay in. I stay in 4-5 star hotels most of the year and the design and thought process that went into this home doesn't compare to any place I've ever stayed. It is a perfect blend of indoor/outdoor living, completely private, and surrounded by custom rock walls and trees. You can't see the neighbors and they can't see you."
"We were enraptured by the spectacular views and spacious feeling of being part of nature from any room in the house, swimming or enjoying the patio. Wide-angle sliding glass doors expand the living area to integrate it into the setting.”
“First and foremost - believe every word of the owner's description. The house is not over hyped - this is an accurate description of a remarkable home. If you want nature, beauty, seclusion, luxury, privacy and relaxation - this is the place."
“We celebrated our 20th anniversary here in August 2012 and it was absolutely perfect! This is the nicest house we've ever stayed in, and it's exactly how we’d build a house in Guanacaste. We loved the open-air layout and how the infinity pool and grounds are nestled into the canopy. The microclimate on the hill provides a cool and comfortable environment."
“We loved our stay here! It is a home that is beyond describing in words or pictures – you really have to visit. It is beyond a 5 diamond resort – not only are the beds incredibly comfortable, the entire home is warm and as I have told all of my friends it should be in Architectural Digest. You are part of nature in every room. The stonework is beautiful, the kitchen unbelievable, the pool is warm and welcoming.”
"The surreal paradise can be summed up in a perfect evening floating in the pool with a glass of wine watching the jungle and ocean. And just as we asked if life could get any better, a group of howler monkeys joined us to watch a perfect red and pink sunset. Later a group of lightning bugs performed a light show in the trees above.”
“Just spent eight enchanted days on this property with my family. The serene stone, glass, and wood applications throughout, coupled with the simple and calming fabric choices along with a black-bottomed infinity lap pool that reflected the dramatic yet natural landscaping are still with me at this moment. The privacy of this location was felt immediately and it affected us all. We all feel changed and remodeled. Next time I will show up with groceries and supplies with intentions of staying put. I would give ten stars if I could.”
"The river valley the house is perched over is teeming with life. We awoke each morning to howler monkeys playing in nearby trees, and in the evenings, we'd enjoy cocktails and listen as the rainforest came alive. The long and short of it is, this place is incredible. There's more than enough nearby activities to fill your days if that's how you want to spend your time, but the house is so beautiful that you can just as easily while away your days swimming, reading and reconnecting with loved ones.”
“This home is beyond lovely and has more than everything you need for a very comfortable stay. The reviews and pictures are accurate, but nothing can capture the experience of staying in this home. We were blown away. The property is beautiful, lush and well maintained. We loved its location. Close to surfing and towns, bank, supermarket, restaurants etc., but far enough away to experience true peace. Luna Azul, just 2-minutes from the house, was our favorite restaurant in the area.”
